I. The Musical
II. Miscellaneous
Cats is a musical performed in various places around the
world such as New York, London, Hamburg, Austria, Japan, Mexico,
and more. It is the longest-running musical in theatre history
(defeating A Chorus Line which formally held the record) and
has won seven Tony awards including one for the Best Musical.
Cats first opened on Broadway on October 7, 1982 at the Winter
Garden Theatre.
How can I contact one of the cast members?
I'm sorry, but there doesn't seem to be any way to do so.
The actor or actress would most likely be too busy to communicate in
any case. In my opinion, they deserve some privacy, so please
respect them. They're people too.
What's a Jellicle Cat?
The phrase Jellicle Cat is made-up. It was created by T.S.
Eliot's niece, who tried to say dear little kitten, but it
came out sounding like Jellicle Cat instead. So he took that
phrase and used in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, which
is what the musical Cats is based on.
A Jellicle Cat is described in
"The Jellicle Ball", but it is also said in one of his
unpublished poems that all cats are Jellicle.
Where can I find Cats merchandise?
Merchandise links are on the
links
page. Other people may have what you're looking for in the
trading
section. You can also post something you are looking for or if
you have something to trade there.
Is it okay to link to your site?
Yes, of course! :-) You can find more information about linking to
this site
here.
However (just to make this
clear), you cannot link to images. Please upload them to your own
server. If you feel you absolutely cannot do this, please
tell me, and I'll try to work
something out.
Who is Griddlebone?
Griddlebone was in the song "Growltiger's Last Stand" which
wasn't in the Cats video. Here's basically how the story
goes (in the Broadway version): Growltiger was a cruel cat and the
Siamese planned to end his reign. Griddlebone was a white Persian on
the Siamese's side. She helped distract Growltiger by singing with
him, so he wouldn't notice the approaching Siamese. They then killed
him.
How do you spell the name of Mungojerrie's friend?
Many people spell it as Rumpleteazer, but it is actually
Rumpelteazer on the Broadway soundtrack. However, I have
heard that the London version spells it as Rumpleteazer, but T.S.
Eliot spells it as Rumpelteazer (like on the Broadway soundtrack),
so that is probably the correct way (thanks for some info on this,
Yi-Peng!).
Where can I get a costume?
I do not know of any places selling Cats costumes.
However, there's are several helpful sites that have instructions on
how to make your own costume (unfortunately, it's rather expensive).
Try here
or here to
obtain more info.
Where can I get a wig?
There's one that's called a Rubie's Cat's Hood (usually goes under
the name "Cats Accesory Pack" or "Cats Kit"). ADA Discount Dancewear sells it
for $21.95. It does have to be cut and sewn to get the desired look,
but it's a lot cheaper than the Beast wig and turns out great
(thanks, Kitty Gato!).
I believe Kitty Gato was referring to
this item. ADA Dancewear also sells a Japanses
Beast wig which many Cats fans have said has also worked
well. View here.
Why in the film do Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer magically change places after the line, "For we are incurably given to rove"?
The reason they 'magically' change places is that The Really Useful
Film Group had to cut a large chunk (two verses) out of that song.
They had to cut out a few other bits elsewhere. They had to keep
the film under two hours long. The finished running time, after all
the cutting, was one hour, fifty-six minutes (thanks, Kate!).
What foreign (outside the U.S.A.) recordings are available?
From Yi-Peng: The London Cast recording (which has been believed to be long out of print) is still be obtainable from all the
three European sites, at a cheaper price than Amazon.com (which not only operates in the U.S., but in the U.K., Germany and France). In
addition, the French site has the Paris cast recording on sale, and
the German site has both the Hamburg and Viennese cast recordings on
sale as well. Now it is quite easy for anyone of you to obtain these
recordings:
Can I use the images on your site?
Images (or backgrounds) off the
graphics
page may be used. I would greatly appreciate a link
(https://jellylorum.tripod.com/) back toward this site as I
made those images. Thanks!
Images such as the gold blinking eyes at the bottom of each page may
also be used, but I cannot take credit for them. I did not make
them. I do not know who did. I am sorry.
Photos may only used if you ask the webmaster. Images (or
backgrounds) used off the
graphics
page were made by me, and I would greatly appreciate a link
(https://jellylorum.tripod.com/) back toward this site.
Where can I get tickets to see Cats?
Some links to finding tickets (or performance dates) can be found
on the
links
page under Tickets & Performance Dates. At some sites, you can
search under "Cats".
How can I contribute to this site?
If you hear of any news related to
Cats such as a show it's going to be on for example, then
please e-mail me about
it, so I can post it on my site to inform other fans. I don't want
to keep information like that to myself! Many fans would probably
be disappointed to later find out they missed out on some kind of
Cats appearance, for example.
You can also send any photos, audio files, reviews, etc. that you may
have! :-) I'd be more than happy to add them.
Where can I find information about auditions?
You can find information about auditions (for the London production)
at The Really Useful Group's
website. Click here
for a direct link.
Who are the two figures in the logo?
The two cast members in the logo are Cynthia Onrubia (Victoria)
and Timothy Scott (Mr. Mistoffelees) from the Original Broadway
Cast. Tim is in the left eye, and Cynthia is in the right eye.
However, they are actually represented by whoever is playing
the role of the above mentioned characters.
Actually they filmed a TV commercial around 1982 with the actors in
silhoutte performing dance moves, ending with them in the "cats
pose." They have stuck with showing the characters in the Heaviside
Layer T.V. commercials now, in the past few years. Although, the
dancer commercial does show up sometimes in the advertising (thanks,
Victoria and Yi-Peng!).
What's the code for that cursor that follows your mouse?
You can get the code here.
However, I had edited the original code that let the image change
over links, text, etc. Unfortunately, I lost the site address that I
got it from and for some reason or another, the Javascript creator
didn't supply their name or anything.
