The video, I think, was very well done, although I wonder if Betty Buckley and Terrence Mann were booked at the time of the taping, because Terry OWNS the part of the Rum Tum Tugger, in my opinion. I remember seeing a "music video" of sorts for Terrence's interpretation of RTT on HBO. Elaine Paige was a decent Griz, but when it came down to it, when she first appeared, she looked downright scary! =) That, and the fact that "Memory" was never my favorite song from CATS to begin with because of the fact that it's overplayed made me focus less on Elaine as Griz and more on other characters. Ken Page was a great Old Deuteronomy, and his performance gave me a sense of familiarity when watching the video when it was shown on PBS. Bryn Walters was an awesome Macavity. It was good to see close-ups of him because usually Macavity moves WAAAAAY too quickly for anyone to get a good look at him. Sir John Mills was an OK Gus. He wasn't Stephen Hanan (who I've only heard on the CD), but he wasn't Sir John Gielgud either (Sir John recorded this song with Sarah Brightman and went through his part at a snail's pace...and he spoke it rather than sang it. Sir Gielgud may be an awesome actor, but don't expect to see him on "Rap City" any time soon). IN other words, it would've been cool if they had paged Stephen Hanan for the part...or even tapped the guy who played Bustopher Jones in the video for the part, if THAT had happened they could've kept Growltiger in as well. Jacob Brent was a great Mistoffelees, of course, but I wished they hadn't dubbed Geoffrey Garrett's voice in as Skimbleshanks or cut down Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer's song.
