The first time I saw Cats was 25th June 1998. It was on a trip to England with my school band. I didn't knew much about Cats then. I had heard the son "Memory" a few times, but that was all. Because I didn't knew much about Cats, I thought it was rather boring. So I just sat down with my good friend Andreas. Yes, he is a boy, but we are only friends. Like Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer. We ate chocolate and decided to fell asleep after "Memory." I didn't know when in the show that song apeard, but now I'm really glad it's not the first song. I never felt asleep, (Neither did Andreas. Maybe he was watching all the girls in the tight untilards? *lol*) 'cause when the music began, the eyes started to blink and the stage began moving, I was lost. Totaly lost! I didn't understan much of what the cats sung about, but still enough to get the story. You know; presentation, memories, catnapping, love and Heaviside Layer. We were pretty far away from the stage, so I didn't got in contact with any cats. Tee Jay Jenkins did a faboules job as Rum Tum Tugger, and Gen Houriouchi is still the best Mistoffelees I'v ever seen. You should have seen his counjuring turns. Amazing! Sally Taylor as Bombalurina was also very good. She has a wonderful voice! When the whole thing was over, we had to walk to Trafalgar Square. Thank you Andreas, for not killing me during that walk. I think I sang "Memory" hundred times that night. On the bus back to Brighton, (we lived there) I decided to see Cats a least on more time before I died. >^..^< When we came back to Norway, the first thing I did was to buy a CD with music from the show. I learned all the songs and created my own dances. I even chose "The Jellicle Ball" for the small twirlers in the school band that I train. Close to Christmas, the Cats video came to Norwegian stores. All I did, was to keep telling my mum and dad that all I wanted for Christmas, was that video. And I got it! I now know all the dances, and I have lost count over how many times I have seen it. I'm sure it is a billion! >^..^< In April this year, my mum, my bestfriend, her mother and I decided to go to London. My friend is totaly uninterested in musicals, so she absolutly didn't want to see Cats. But my mum knew that I wanted soooo much to see Cats again, and finnaly, 13th April, she bought us some very expencive tickets! On the train to NLT, people must have been thinking that I was crazy, because my face was a only, huge smile. I was so exited when we got there. This was what I had been really looking forward to for such a long time. God! I wish I could take the CATS dolls with me home! They are so cool. It's Bombalurina, Jemima, Skimbleshanks and Jellylorum, I think. I was so exited, so I really don't remember. Before we entered the thatre, I bought a T-shirt and a souvernir brouchure. In the theatre, I just had to buy the program too. Then the show began! I really didn't remember it was so cool, funny, good and powerful. For you that have only seen the video; to see it live is totaly different. Much, much, much better! We sat on the f irst row that are not moving,(I told you the tickets was expencive) and it's here the cats runs most. During "The Naming of Cats", when they are walking around, Rumpelteazer stood in front of me for a looooong time. I said the words together with her, that was sooo fun! After that, every time she run where I sat, she smiled friendly to me. And of course, I smiled very friendly back. Sascha Kane played Rumpelteazer. On "The Rum Tum Tugger", he was suddenly laying ON a woman three seates beside my mum. I would have been so fun if it was her he was laying on. In the break, I went up on the stage to get Old Deuteronomy's autograph. I talked to him a bit, told him that I loved the show and that he did a great job. I even shook his hand. I don't know who played him that night. It was a stand in, not Nicholas Pound or Kit Benjamin. It's hard to see, but I think it says Bob Wite or something, on what he wrote to me. At the end of the show, Carbucketty gave me a sort of a hug, rubbing against my arm. That was soo cool, Carbucketty is CUTE! Before or later, I'v never been THAT close to a Jellicle! I also got eyecontact and a smile from Skimbleshanks (Matthew Gould) and Bombalurina. I don't know who played Bomb. It was not Sally Taylor, but a stand in. During one song, I don't remember which one, a male cat (don't know who) started to play with Electras foot. I don't think it was planed to be, because Electra looked very surprised. What is very cool in the live shows, that are not in the video, is "Growltiger's Last Stand." It's a very cool song, and Griddlebone is one of my true favourites. Another funny thing is when Mistoffelees is doing the thing with the light, during his song. First the lightray is very big, then he is squeesing it smaller and smaller, till it's; gone! Funny! I also love the much longer and cooler tap dance on "The Gumbie Cat." "Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer" is longer too. You should have seen Sascha Kane, she's hyper! And , Nick Searle, who plays Mungojerrie is so small and cute. Not even taller thank Sascha Kane. They both did a great job during their song. At the end of the song, they made fun with their special costumes! I also found it very interesting to hear Veerle Casteleyn's real voice. She has a beautiful voice in real. What was very strange, was that Bombalurina was choosen to Mistoffelees assisten when he was going to bring Old Deuteronomy back, not Cassandra. I'v no found out that is always like this in London What disepointed me a bit, which I didn't remebered from the first time, was the stage. It looks like it is too small for the actors. I know I'm very critical when I'm saying this, it's my opinion. But I know much about dancing, since I am a dancer my self. But, it's forgiven, because the show is so good itselfs, so let's not complain about the stage, Lone! The one who played Etcetera was not as good as the video Etcetera, but no one can ever be a better kitten than Jo Bingham. But I liked Electra, she was good.
