Personally, I agree with many before me who've said that Jacob Brent was the best Mistoffelees. I myself roleplay Mistoffelees from time to time on a MUD, and strive to make the character as much like the one portrayed by Brent as I can. Mistoffelees, as they said, is small, and black from ears to tail... save for, of course, the clean white ruffles of fur on his chest. He -is- shy, but a magician knows how to put that aside! He's young, young enough that when he accomplishes something great he feels overly proud of himself, though being completely uncertain until he actually succeeds. (Notice how often he looks to Tugger for support?) He's also incredibly intelligent, but doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of himself. He looks terribly suprised at how much praise Tugger has to offer. I believe that yes, he and Rum Tum Tugger are best friends... his line, "The Rum Tum Tugger is a terrible bore." is a joke, not serious, which is likely why Tugger doesn't swat him. ;) Also, as Sara pointed out, it could have been a jab in retaliation for the ball that nearly clocked him. ^^ And how could you not think Tugger admired him? The entire time he sings Mistoffelees' song, his voice is filled with admiration(and even pride, perhaps?). I also believe that Mistoffelees and Munkustrap are friends, but they are not as close as Misto and Tugger are. As for romance... who knows? Those kittens had to come from somewhere before the hat. ;) However, I don't believe he shows a partiality to any one female among the Jellicles. He does dance with Victoria, but also with Cassandra, and if you want to say that dancing with a Jellicle means that one is attracted to them, then he could very well be attracted to Munkustrap, Rum Tum Tugger, or several other Jellicles, female or male, just as much. Not that I'm saying he is attracted to the guys, just that who he dances with is not sufficient indication. ::chuckles:: I believe that he's very affectionate, but also doesn't get to express that affection very much, because not many of the Jellicles really care for him until -after- the Ball. Tugger does, but the whole implication of Misto's song is that the Jellicles wouldn't have asked him without Tugger's reccomendation. The way he hurls himself at Old Deuteronomy implies that he's very loving and not afraid to show it... and it's also a sign of his youth. An older cat would have been more restrained and observant of decorum. He is highly graceful, as seen in his dancing and also by the line "He can walk on the narrowest rail." Mistoffelees is a cat who will never be seen falling, tripping, or losing control on a waxed floor. Banana peels wouldn't phaze him. ^_~ His powers are amazing, but he is unsure of them. When conjuring Old Deuteronomy from the clutches of Macavity, he is very tense, constantly looking back at Tugger as if to say, "Are you sure you know what I'm doing?" And yes, I meant it to read like that, because that's exactly the look he gets. All in all, Mistoffelees is one of the best-rounded characters, in addition to being the friendliest and cutest( I like pale guys, sue me. :p ), and holds the place in my heart as the Number One Jellicle! With, naturally, Brent being the Number One Performer. ^^ --Rhysa
