Macavity was a Jellicle in the past. I think that he did something 
bad and had to left the tribe. Macavity was together with 
Bombalurina. After some time then he was together with Demeter. But 
Demeter didn't want that after a while. At the Jellicle Ball Macavity 
wanted to avenge at the tribe. So he kidnapped Old Deuteronomy and 
tried to kidnap Demeter.
