I have always thought of Demeter as a Tortioshell cat, due
mainly to her skittishness. That is a common trait of the
colorful kitties. Form the very first time we see her,
Demeter is the barometer of the junkyard. She knows when to
be suspicious or brave or sympathetic. It's not something
one can pinpoint; she just knows, somehow. I also think she
and Grizabella share some kind of bond. She seems to be the
only one who understands the old, grizzled cat. She fears
Macavity, and rightfully so; she was abducted by the
felonious feline once. Her friendship with Bombalurina has
made her stronger, and she is learning to overcome some of
her nervousness.
